This spring, University of Nevada Water Quality Specialist and Truckee Meadows Weed Coordinating Group facilitator Dr. Susan Donaldson was promoted to the rank of full professor by the University of Nevada, Reno’s president, Marc Johnson. She also received the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection’s (NDEP) Wendell McCurry Excellence in Water Quality Award.
Sue, a UNR doctorate alumnus, has led numerous water quality, pesticide safety, weed identification and weed management education programs in Nevada since she joined UNCE in 1994. Some of her programs include: Pesticide Applicator Training, Weed Warriors and Integrated Pest Management.
“Dr. Donaldson’s water quality education efforts have greatly informed the public. She is directly responsible for helping stakeholders apply their knowledge and skills to solve community environmental challenges,” said Colleen Cripps, administrator of the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection.
However, due to budget cuts, Donaldson’s long and distinguished career with UNCE has been terminated. She will be laid off effective June 30, 2013 as a result of the 72% budget cut that will fully impact Cooperative Extension on July 1, 2013. Congratulations and condolences cards may be sent to Sue at UNCE (4955 Energy Way in Reno or firstname.lastname@example.org) until May 3rd.
